God Grant Us…

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference… but joy in all circumstances!

This is my rendition of the serenity prayer. I love this prayer because it reminds me that I will not always have control over my situations. However, I do have control over how I react to them. I added “joy in all circumstances” to remind me of our calling to remain joyful despite trials of any kind (James 1:2-4). We have internal joy through our heavenly Father and His promises for us.

I was so excited because I was only 5 minutes away from finishing quilting the red, white, and blue quilt I have been working on all summer. Sadly, my free motion foot broke… don’t ask me how!

I decided that this was an indication to stop quilting for today. Reflecting on it now, I would not have finished this blog post if it had not happened. If it encourages only one person, then my broken foot and the three days I will wait for my new one to come in is worth every second. I can’t change that my foot broke, so I can’t show you my finished quilting. However, I can show you my other art project.

The oil painting I made to remind me daily of the serenity prayer.

Serenity is “the state of being calm, peaceful, and untroubled.” This is my prayer to all of you; that you find serenity in this busy world for the situations that are out of your control, that you find the courage, through Christ, to change the things that need to be changed, and that God grants you the wisdom to know the difference. Finally, I pray that no matter the circumstances you are facing, you are filled with the joy that only the Lord can provide.
