God is the peace in our troubled sea, and He will carry us safely to shore. We need to trust this promise. The idea for this quilt came from the song “My Lighthouse” by Rend Collective. I had been learning to free motion quilt for some time, and I wanted to create an image solely from free motion quilting. The label was not originally part of the plan; however, it got wet, and the blue bled onto the cream-colored border. Gramma and I tried getting it out, but it didn’t work all the way. This was our solution, and I love it even more. Tip: Wash your fabric before you start sewing, and use color catchers, too!
Life is filled with rough storms. Days can be calm and beautiful, or they can be filled with rough winds and crashing waves. In these times it is easy to be afraid. Afraid of the dark. Afraid of the unknown future. Tossed around in the waves, there seems to be no hope. The light from Lighthouse reminds us that there is hope. It guides us towards safe land in rough water. In the dark, it warns us to not crash our ships against the rocks. Lighthouses need to be built on a solid rock to withstand any storm. They must have a firm foundation to weather the elements.
The Lord is our Lighthouse. He is our light and our salvation. He is our rock of refuge, our stronghold, and our strong fortress. There is nothing else to fear. We hope in his steadfast love. In seasons of waiting, we are strengthened by the LORD’s perfect timing. If life seems like a never-ending storm, I encourage you to pray Psalms 27-28. God hears you before you even ask.
In you, O LORD, do I take refuge;
Let me never be put to shame;
In your righteousness deliver me!
Incline your ear to me;
Rescue me speedily!
Be a rock of refuge for me,
A strong fortress to save me!
For you are my rock and my fortress;
And for your name’s sake you lead me
And guide me;
You take me out of the net they have
Hidden for me,
For you are my refuge,
Into you hand I commit my spirit;
You have redeemed me, O LORD,
Faithful God.
