Trust

Unfortunately, I’ve been a little busy with school lately to have any projects ready to share with you all, so I’m calling all of you quilters and creators out there to share some projects with me! I want to see some of the things you have been working on, and I would love to share your talents with everyone else!! Please send me some pictures and a description of what you have been working on if you are willing for it to be shared on the blog! Instead of sharing a new project today, I would like to share an old one and my thoughts on trusting the LORD.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of the drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” ~Jeremiah 17:7-8

This is a baby quilt I made in March of 2016. I was still learning to free motion quilt at the time. I do not remember who it was for, but I do think it is an adorable baby quilt. I hope whoever received it loves it!

Trust…

These verses in Jeremiah are really beautiful. Can you imagine yourself as a strong, green, healthy tree that flourishes and blossoms during drought and storm? I desire my faith and trust to be like that tree, but I think this verse is highlighted even more in context to the previous two verses. Jeremiah 17:5-6 says, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the LORD. He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land.'” These verses are strikingly different, and there meaning is clear. Those who place their trust in man are cursed, but those who place their trust in the LORD will be blessed.

These verses were written before the fall of Jerusalem that was God’s judgement on the Israelites for breaking the covenant with him. This statement of trust was before a long period of suffering and darkness fell on God’s chosen people. What does it mean to place our trust in the Lord in light of suffering and in this fallen world? Proverbs 3:5 explains it this way, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” The world tells us many lies… to trust our heart and to go with our gut are a few. However, the Bible makes it clear that “the heart is deceitful about all things, and desperately sick;” ~ Jeremiah 17:9. We are not called to trust what we inherently desire or what the world tells us is good or right, but we are to place our faith and trust in the word of God. We may not understand the why or even the how, but if we dive a little deeper and place our trust in the promises of God, we will bear fruit even amidst the drought. Who or what are you placing your trust in?

There is so much more that we could explore about this topic. I am sure scholars have written articles about trusting God and what the Bible says. I have only scratched the surface of many of the Biblical topics I write in this blog. I would love to write more on each topic, but I only have so much time on my hands. I encourage you not to take my word for it, but to dive deeper into these topics. If trusting God in your life right now is hard, seek what the Bible has to say about it!
