Plans, Quilt Show, and Ironing

“Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” ~Psalm 127:1

We often make plans and priorities that seem right to us; however, unless they fit in with God’s divine plan, they will fail. The life we build should be a reflection of His priorities and how to bring glory to Him. If we build our foundation on our own, we are the foolish builder who builds his house on the sand. When the waves of life come – which they will – our work is washed quickly away. When we build our house on Him, He is a solid foundation that will withstand any storm. When we protect His kingdom and bring glory to Him, we are fulfilling a worthy and righteous calling. This looks different for everyone! You may be a quilter, a teacher, a submariner, a stay-at home mom… whatever you do, do it for His glory.

My sewing machine came home from the shop today! Above is her all buckled in and ready for the ride home! The long arm is too big for a case, so taking it to the shop is a little more of a hassle than my Bernina, but we managed. I lift weights, so I can carry my long arm into the shop by myself πŸ™‚ I had the amazing opportunity to attend a local quilt show this weekend. I love seeing talented people spreading joy with their pieces of art. Below are just a few quilts that were on display. If anyone has quilts they are working on or have finished over the years, please send my some pictures and a description, so I can showcase your talent!

Quilting Tip: Let us talk briefly about ironing. I don’t know about you, but it might be my least favorite part of the quilting process. I just ironed over 100 half square triangles open, and it was tedious! If you had asked me a couple of years ago, I probably would have told you that it was not that big of a deal how you ironed or even how well you ironed during the process of piecing, but I would have been so wrong! We need a good technique for ironing to ensure that the pieces we painstakingly sew together don’t get all bent out of shape! Here is a great video I watched that has significantly improved my ironing technique. Thank you Karen Brown @Just Get it Done Quilts for teaching me the importance of ironing. I hope you find this video as helpful as I did!

As ironing affects how well our blocks will go together or how pointy our stars will be, our decisions in life affect how we are following God’s will. Sometimes, it is really simple to understand what God would want from us, but other times, the choice is as clear as mud. God promises in James 1:5 that He will give us wisdom if we ask with faith. In those times of uncertainty, pray and then pray some more. Are our blueprints for our lives written in alignment with His plan or are they written with our own desires in mind? Do they align with the truth of Scripture? God bless and happy quilting!
